How to Treat a Burn

Updated: Oct 29, 2019

So with Bonfire night approaching we thought that we would put together a quick video on how to treat burns. In 2018 in England alone there were 4,436 individuals attended A&E because of an injury caused by a firework

So should you find yourself in the unfortunate situation in which you or someone close to you receives a burn, please follow these simple steps.

Remove anything not stuck to the burn such as clothing or jewellery as this may be adding to the heat of the burn.

Do not apply any creams or ointments, instead proceed to run the burn under cold water for up to 20 minutes. This will reduce the heat and relieve some of the pain.

Should you need to visit the local A&E to have it checked, cover the burn loosely with a layer of clingfilm to help reduce the pain caused by air exposure. It will also help prevent bacteria entering the wound.

Should you wish to know more regarding the treatment of burns, or other first aid training. Please contact us.
